Launched in 1977, Issey Sport has become one of Issey’s more prominent diffusion lines amongst secondhand clothing enthusiasts. As the name indicates, Issey sought to incorporate a sports aesthetic to appeal to a younger audience, a distinct departure from his normal designs. Amongst his handpicked team from Bunka Fashion School was Chisato Tsumori, a new graduate who climbed to head designer of the I.S line. Although Tsumori then went on to create her own eponymous line, this collaboration spawned the iconic logo-adorned varsity jackets, bombers and hoodies many covet today.
