Undercover’s AW04 collection, “But Beautiful”, paid homage to famed French soft sculpture artist Anne-Valérie Dupond. Some stylistic overlap is apparent when viewing Jun’s works and Dupond’s, both possessing a strong affinity for mixing and matching fabrics in an almost whimsical manner. Jun borrowed from Dupond’s recurring hand-me-down, mismatched stuffed animal motif and incorporated exaggerated silhouettes and materials of his own (which later carried onto his SS04 collection, Languid). Marriage of high fashion with tactile art is exemplified strongly in this exceedingly unique collection by Undercover.
